2019 Sturgeon Ice Fishing
Its that time of the year again, the time a good majority of people dread, winter time. However, this year has been off to a slower start than usual. With the temperature swings dropping cold only to come back up within days. All these swings have done nothing but hurt any ice making and slow our chances of getting out there in pursuit of some more trophy sturgeon.
Only a year ago we had great ice and were able to get on the fish right away. We ended up pulling up nearly 200 sturgeon through the ice ranging from 12 inches all the way to 62 inches. The Minnesota record was even broken with a massive 78 inch, 120 lb sturgeon which even required 4 holes to get the fish through! If you asked my opinion that record is one that will fall again soon, why you ask? Minnesota only recently started accepting catch and release records for lake sturgeon, so will it fall again this year? With time running out fast we will have to wait to see.
This year second Habit members will again be participating in a great event for veterans and outdoors men. The event is hosted by Hometown Hero Outdoors. It is a great opportunity to give back to your local veterans, police, firefighters and more. The event will be hosted on February 1st 2020 on the St. Croix River. There is food, raffle, and after we head to the hard water to chase some sturgeon. Last year dozens of vets and servicemen came out and were guided by many of the anglers just like my friends and I. If you are interested in learning more to help out or participate or are a vet or serviceman who is looking for some outdoor adventure you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or search Hometown Hero Outdoors which is run by Chris Urman.
