River Bowfishing – The video that started it all

When we started second habit outdoors we always thought it would be cool to try video record some of the things that we do.  Armed with nothing more than cheap bows, home made bow fishing setups, and a digital camera meant more for shooting pictures than video, this was the first video we ever came up with.  

Duck Jalapeno Poppers

Marinade:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons of red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoons of paprika
  • 1/4 cup of red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed pepper
  • 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of horseradish
  • 1 Serrano pepper seeded and chopped
  • dash of salt
  • 6 jalapeno peppers cored out (or more depending on how many you want)
  • 1 duck breast per popper (tenderized)

Duck Meatballs with Homemade Italian Sauce

Ingredients (serves 6-10)

spaghetti sauce

  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 12 oz. can of tomato paste
    _ 1 12 oz can of water
  • 3 quarts of whole stewed tomatos
  • heaping tablespoon of sweet basil
  • heaping tablespoon of parsley
  • a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper

Duck meatballs

  • 1 1/2 cups of crushed saltines
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of hard parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of parsley
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of basil
  • 1/2 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 2 lbs of duck meat
  • 1.2 lbs of pork fat

Minnesota Hotdish Burger

Ingredients –
Yields 2-3 burgers

Cream of Mushroom soup w/Wild rice –

  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 white onion (diced)
  • 1 8 oz container of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup of half and half
  • 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of corn starch
  • 1/3 cup wild rice

Hashbrowns

  • 2-3 potatoes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • vegetable oil (enough to cover hashbrown patty to fry)

1 lb of venison burger
2-3 buns
mayonnaise for bun
1 brick of sharp cheddar cheese

Sweet Chili Venison Tacos

Ingredients –

Coleslaw

3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon of seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon of ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon of celery salt

Sweet Chili Sauce

1/2 cup rice vinegar (unseasoned)
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
4 finely chopped garlic cloves
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
Just under half up of sambal oelek
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
2 tablespoons of water

Shells – wanton wrappers, Ill save you some time trying to find them in the grocery store, they are next to the tofu which is usually near the vegetable isle.
